A 1099-NEC over 600 dollars triggers self employment tax

If you earned $600+ from any one platform, you'll get a 1099 and owe self-employment tax.

  1. Each platform sends you its own 1099-NEC. Add up all of them as your gross income on Schedule C.
  2. After expenses, what's left becomes your self-employment income on Schedule SE.
  3. Two platforms means two 1099s, but still ONE Schedule C. Driving for DoorDash and Uber Eats counts as one business.
  4. Social Security taxes only your first $176,100 of income (2025) or $184,500 (2026). Past that, you stop paying the 12.4 percent SS chunk. Medicare's 2.9 percent never stops.
